Executive Committee Approves Seven New Members
The Executive Committee of the Blair County Chamber approved seven new members at its meeting on July 12th. The new members are: 10 Seven Marketing of Duncansville, Altoona District USBC of Hollidaysburg, Beaps of Martinsburg, The Chempistry Store of Altoona, The Health Insurance Place of Altoona, Morgan Stanley of State College, and The Studio on 5th of Altoona.
Bovard Heating & Cooling to Host July’s “Business After Hours”
The next Blair County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours will be held on Thursday, July 25, from 5 -7 p.m., at Bovard Heating & Cooling, a Division of Goodco Mechanical, Inc., located at 918 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona. Cost to attend is $10 for Chamber Members and $20 for non-members. Reservations can be made by calling the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.
Chamber Workplace Wellness Committee Plans Event
The Blair County Chamber’s Workplace Wellness Committee will hold a “Wake Up to Wellness” event on September 10th to unveil a new toolkit that the committee is developing to help employers implement wellness programs at their businesses. The event will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Jaffa Shrine Center. The cost to attend is $12 for Chamber members and $15 for non-members. A continental breakfast is included. Planning to Travel in 2020? Let the Chamber Help!
Haven’t made your travel plans yet for 2020? Why not let the Blair County Chamber handle the heavy lifting with trips to either Great Britain or the French Riviera! The Chamber and Epic Journeys will offer the “Britain Sampler” from July 12-21 and the French Riviera from October 31 – November 8. The Britain Sampler begins in London and includes stops in Bath, Stonehenge, Liverpool, Edinburgh, York and Stratford-upon-Avon. It also features the English Lake District and Westminster Palace. The French Riviera trip, co-sponsored by Dream Vacations, includes Nice, St. Tropez, Monte Carlo, Cannes and Monaco. The Chamber has also begun exploring travel possibilities for 2021 and recently contracted with Citslinc to do a sixth China Trip from April 16-27, 2021. Leadership Alumni Launches Newest Campaign
Each year, the Leadership Blair County Alumni of the Chamber initiate a cause that helps someone in the local community. For eight years, that cause was “Basket of Hope.” In the 2019, the Alumni has switched direction and has created a program known as “guaran.teez.” The goal is to raise enough funds to purchase 1,600 t-shirts for the 400 students enrolled at Penn Lincoln School in Altoona. Penn Lincoln’s community is economically disadvantaged and the guaran.teez program is designed to help students gain a greater sense of community while at the same time combatting the stigma of the haves and have-nots. Donations to this program will be accepted through August 2nd. Each shirt costs $5.00. Each $20 donation will allow donors to “adopt” a child and to provide them with clean shirts throughout the week. The LBC Alumni will match each donation dollar-for-dollar up to $2,500. Checks should be made to: Blair County Chamber Foundation and can be mailed or dropped off at the Blair County Chamber Office, 3900 Industrial Park Drive, Altoona, PA, 16602.

If you’re an employer with employees between 21 and 40 years-of-age, you might want to consider getting them better positioned within the local business community. How can you do that? The Young Professionals of Blair County, a program of the Blair County Chamber, is an active program helping young professionals to make connections, gain greater professional development skills and assist in community projects. There is no cost to be added to the YP Contact List. Just call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 and provide the name and email of someone in your business that could benefit through this association.
