WE-LEaD Networking Event is Today at Lakemont Park
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce WE-LEaD (Women Encouraging – Leadership, Education and Development) Committee will host a networking today, September 9th, from 5 - 7 p.m., at c2 Trolley House at Lakemont Park. The event is sponsored by Blair Companies. The cost to attend is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members and includes food and two complimentary beverage tickets. “Wake Up to Wellness” is Tomorrow at Jaffa Shrine Center
The Blair County Chamber’s Workplace Wellness Committee will hold a “Wake Up to Wellness” event tomorrow, September 10th to unveil a new toolkit that the committee is developing to help employers implement wellness programs at their businesses. The event will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Jaffa Shrine Center and conclude by 10:00. Speakers for the Wake Up to Wellness are Greg Drew, President of Value Drug Company, Dr. Zane Gates of Empower3 Center for Health and Brad Anderson of L.R. Webber Associates. The cost to attend is just $12 for Chamber Members and $15 for non-members. A healthy continental breakfast is included. To register for the event call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online. Blair Business Mirror to Feature Courtesy Ford
Courtesy Ford, a longtime member of the Blair County Chamber will be the cover story in the next Blair Business Mirror that hits the streets tomorrow as a supplement to the Altoona Mirror. Among the other stories in this issue will be a Q&A with Sigrid Andrew of the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center and a feature story on Dorman’s Jewelers. This will be the first issue of the Blair Business Mirror that will also be available to Chamber members in digital format. The link to the publication will be provided to every member who is on the Chamber’s email list. The Blair Business Mirror will continue to be mailed each month through December.
Thursday’s “Breakfast Club” Will Honor Local Businesses
The Blair County business community is slowly beginning to understand the important role that sustainability plays in saving money and conserving resources. At the next Chamber “Breakfast Club,” set for this Thursday, September 12th at 7:45 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park, that topic will be even more emphatically driven-home. Autumn Secrest and Jim Price from Sustainable Pittsburgh will present “Sustainability and Your Business.” With the assistance of Sustainable Pittsburgh, the Chamber’s Sustainable Blair County Committee put together a Sustainability Survey that businesses could complete to determine their strengths and weaknesses. The businesses that completed the survey will receive certificates at the Breakfast Club that correspond to their current level of accomplishment. Those businesses receiving certificates are: Great Commission School, Prime Sirloin, Roaring Spring Blank Book, Roaring Spring Library, Stiffler McGraw, U.S. Hotel, Veeder-Root, Advantage Resource Group and Keller Engineers. The next Blair County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours will be held on Thursday, September 19, from 5 -7 p.m., at Senior Life Altoona, located at 1311 Twelfth Avenue, Altoona. WE-LEaD Workshop Battle-Cry: “Women Mean Business!”
The potential perils of starting a business shouldn’t outweigh the fabulous feeling of being your own boss. That message will come through loud and clear as the WE-LEaD Committee of the Blair County Chamber will present a workshop titled “Women Mean Business” on Friday, September 20 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. The panel will consist of Jennifer Soisson of Brush Mountain Running and Outdoors, Inc.; Lisa Mancinelli of State Farm Insurance; Stephanie Hite of Trade Secrets and Charlene Dodson of The Fashion Boutique at Charlotte’s Trove. Marty Malone will moderate the panel discussion. The cost to attend the WE-LEaD event is $25 for Chamber Members and $35 for non-members. A continental breakfast is included. Only Three Weeks Left Until bizX Trade Show
The bizX trade show will be held at the Pegula Ice Arena on the Penn State Campus on September 26th. Subtitled, “Your Business. No Boundaries,” this year’s show will feature more than 80 exhibitors, a variety of seminars, a keynote luncheon as well as Corridor Cuisine. Reservations are required for the luncheon which will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will conclude at 1:00 p.m. when the show floor officially opens. Keynote speaker for the luncheon is author and sports executive Joe Battista. The show will remain open until 5:00 p.m. Booth costs for this year’s bizX are $200 for small businesses, $300 for large businesses. The cost of attending the keynote luncheon remains $25. As expected the sponsorships filled-up quickly. Hospitality Asset Management will be the Presenting Sponsor; AmeriServ Bank is the Keynote Luncheon Sponsor and Your Cigar Den is the Seminar Sponsor. Chamber’s Great Britain Trip Accepting Sign-Ups
If you missed the recent informational meeting on the Blair County Chamber of Commerce’s Great Britain Trip, don’t despair. You can contact the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 and we’ll be happy to send you information. And there will be another informational meeting on the trip sometime this fall. The Chamber is doing the Great Britain Trip in cooperation with Epic Journeys from July 12-21, 2020. The excursion includes guided tours throughout England, Scotland and Wales including stops at Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Stonehenge and Edinburgh Castle. Ground transportation from Altoona is included in the tour. Space is limited so call the Chamber today!
