Next “Business After Hours” is Thursday at Senior Life Altoona
The next Blair County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours will be held on Thursday, September 19th, from 5 -7 p.m., at Senior Life Altoona, located at 1311 Twelfth Avenue, Altoona. Cost to attend is $10 for Chamber Members and $20 for non-members. Reservations can be made by calling the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Chamber’s Young Professionals Partnering on Hollidaysburg Event
This Thursday, September 19th, the Chamber’s Young Professionals of Blair County will once again have a major role in the Hollidaysburg Downtown Live event. The YP Committee has coordinated “Food Truck Alley” at the event and will also be selling Ritchey’s ice cream and bottled water. Downtown Live is free and open to the public and runs from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Food Truck Alley is sponsored by PennCrest Bank. Among the musical headliners is Felix & the Hurricanes. Young professionals are encouraged to attend Downtown Live as it is a great opportunity to network while supporting the local community.

WE-LEaD Workshop Set for Friday at The Casino
The potential perils of starting a business shouldn’t outweigh the fabulous feeling of being your own boss. That message will come through loud and clear as the WE-LEaD Committee of the Blair County Chamber will present a workshop titled “Women Mean Business” this Friday, September 20th from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. The panel will consist of Jennifer Soisson of Brush Mountain Running and Outdoors, Inc.; Lisa Mancinelli of State Farm Insurance; Stephanie Hite of Trade Secrets and Charlene Dodson of The Fashion Boutique at Charlotte’s Trove. Marty Malone will moderate the panel discussion. The cost to attend the WE-LEaD event is $25 for Chamber Members and $35 for non-members. A continental breakfast is included. Corporate sponsor of this WE-LEaD program is Reliance Bank.  To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.

Only Two Weeks Left Until bizX Trade Show
The bizX trade show will be held at the Pegula Ice Arena on the Penn State Campus on September 26th. Subtitled, “Your Business. No Boundaries,” this year’s show will feature more than 80 exhibitors, a variety of seminars, a keynote luncheon as well as Corridor Cuisine. Reservations are required for the luncheon which will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will conclude at 1:00 p.m. when the show floor officially opens. Keynote speaker for the luncheon is author and sports executive Joe Battista. The show will remain open until 5:00 p.m. Booth costs for this year’s bizX are $200 for small businesses, $300 for large businesses. The cost of attending the keynote luncheon remains $25. As expected the sponsorships filled-up quickly. Hospitality Asset Management will be the Presenting Sponsor; AmeriServ Bank is the Keynote Luncheon Sponsor and Your Cigar Den is the Seminar Sponsor. Supporting Sponsors are Advantage Resource Group, First Commonwealth Bank, McCartney’s/Steelcase, Moore Power Sales, Okonak, Dean & Lechner, P.C., PSECU, Roberts Oxygen Company, The UPS Store – Altoona & State College and Zito Business. WTAJ-TV is Media Partner for the bizX show. Leave the Car at Home: Travel in Style to the bizX Show
Through the generosity of Freedom Excursions by Scully, Chamber Members who want to attend the upcoming bizX trade show on September 26th at the Pegula Ice Arena on the Penn State Campus can leave their cars at home and travel in style in one of Freedom Excursions luxury motor coaches. And the round trip is absolutely FREE! Passengers will depart from Lowes Parking Lot in Altoona at 10:30 a.m. and will arrive prior to the Keynote Luncheon (which begins at 11:30 a.m.). Each person planning to attend the luncheon must make reservations for the luncheon (at $25/each). You do not have to attend the luncheon to ride the motor coach. The trade show opens at 1:00 p.m. and the motor coach will leave to return to Altoona at 2:30 p.m. To reserve your seat on the motor coach, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online. Save your gas, riode in relaxed comfort and enjoy a great trade show. What could be better than that!

Young Professionals Holding “Chat & Chill” at the Buccinese Society
The Young Professionals of Blair County will be hosting a Chat & Chill event on October 3rd from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Buccinese Society in Altoona. Cost to attend is just $15/per person and includes a full Italian buffet. The event includes bocce, networking and the opportunity to just chill-out. To make a reservation, please call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online. Reservations Must Be Made by September 29! Corporate sponsor of Chat & Chill is Blair School of Martial Arts.

Chamber Helping to Promote Armed Intruder Conference
The Chamber is partnering with one of its members on an event that carries incredible significance to the business community. The 4th Annual Preparing for an Armed Intruder Conference will be held on Monday, October 14th from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Altoona Grand Hotel. Survival Mindset, a member of the Chamber, has gained an impressive reputation for producing high impact programs dealing with topics of great urgency from the standpoint of safety and security.  This event will add to that reputation. The cost to attend the conference is $140/ person. However, Chamber Members can attend for just $99/person by using the discount code BCCC. To register, click on https://pfaai-altoonapa.eventbrite.com/.

. . . to Cullen Sheehan, an Allstate Insurance agent and a member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, was recently recognized by The Allstate Foundation as an outstanding volunteer and earned a Helping Hands grant. That grant resulted in $1,000 being awarded to both Family Services, Inc. and the Hollidaysburg Area Summer Baseball League.
