Encompassing 98.6 square miles, the population was last counted at 13,442. Enrollment is approximately 1,900, and the district employs about 250 people. |

| Tyrone Area School District
The Tyrone Area School District has a mission to offer progressive educational opportunities that empower students to be responsible citizens and lifelong learners. Located in northern Blair County, the district features an elementary school (810 students in PreK3, PreK4 through grade 4), middle school (544 students in grades 5-8) and high school (572 students in grades 9-12). The district was honored to be selected in December 2007 and in December 2009 through the U.S. News and World Report magazine assessment as being among America’s Best High Schools, based upon overall student achievement, academic performance of disadvantaged students, and college readiness.

Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 was established by an Act of the Pennsylvania Legislature on July 1, 1971. The Intermediate Unit 8 is part of the public school system of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 was created as part of an educational network of 29 Intermediate Units providing services to the 501 local public school districts, career and technology centers, recognized non-public schools and the state department of education. Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 is compromised of 35 public school districts, 72 non-public schools and 5 vo-techs. Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 employs a total of 534 people; 340 employees are considered full-time. |
